Semantics of Under-represented Languages of the Americas 12 (SULA 12) https://kaitire.rdc.uottawa.ca/SULA October 13-16 2022 Organizer: Andrés Pablo Salanova, Department of Linguistics, University of Ottawa Email: kaitire@uottawa.ca We are happy to announce the 12th workshop on the Semantics of Under-represented Languages of the Americas, to be hosted by the University of Ottawa on October 13th to 16th, 2022. The focus of the workshop is the description and formal analysis of problems in semantics and pragmatics in under-represented languages of the Americas (which include Indigenous languages, sign languages, creoles, non-standard varieties of national languages, among others). Invited speakers: Marianne Huijsmans, University of British Columbia Paloma Jeretič, Leibniz Center for General Linguistics (ZAS), Berlin Pedro Mateo Pedro, University of Toronto Maziar Toosarvandani, University of California at Santa Cruz This year's edition of SULA is held concurrently with a workshop on Lexicography in Indigenous Languages of the Americas (LILA), aimed primarily at community-based lexicographers, as well as at professional linguists engaged in collaborative research. Information about LILA will be divulged at a later date. Format: SULA 12 is planned to be held in person at the University of Ottawa, contingent on the sanitary situation and any restrictions on gathering or movement. All talks will be live-streamed, and we plan to be flexible in terms of accommodating remote presentations if needed. Abstract Submissions via Easy Chair, due May 15, 2022: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=sula12 The conference will feature both 20-minute talks and poster presentations. Abstracts will automatically be considered for both formats, and the program committee will recommend the most adequate format for each submission. Abstracts should be uploaded for evaluation in a single anonymous PDF file, at most 1 page long (with an additional page for data and references). The PDF file must contain the title of the talk, and be written single-spaced with 2.5 cm margins and 12 point font. Abstracts may be submitted in English, Spanish, Portuguese or French. Talks and posters may in addition be delivered in any indigenous language of the Americas.
